Man Shot and Killed After Opening Fire on Police, 3 Officers Wounded

SOUTH ELGIN, ILLINOIS — July 4, 2018

A man was fatally shot, and three officers wounded, after a standoff Tuesday evening. The assailant opened fire Tuesday night at around 10:50 p.m. in northwest suburban South Elgin prompting calls to the police by residents. At about 11:00 p.m., residents of the apartment complex were evacuated after the man had holed himself in the apartment with a shotgun and a scoped rifle. The man opened fire on officers a second time around 2:30 a.m., and officers returned fired, fatally striking him.
